Pores, Sebaceous Glands & Blackheads.

Pores cannot be permanently closed ~ they are not doors. But they can be consistently refined, visibly minimised, and kept clear of the congestion that makes them appear larger than they are. Understanding why pores become problematic in the first place is the first step to treating them effectively.

Sebaceous glands ~ the oil-producing structures attached to each pore ~ are the root of most pore and blackhead concerns. When sebum production is excessive, when dead skin cells are not cleared efficiently, and when the skin’s natural exfoliation process slows, the result is congestion. Oxidised sebum becomes the blackheads visible at the surface. Trapped debris stretches the pore wall over time, making pores appear permanently enlarged. Inflammation from bacterial activity within the pore leads to breakouts that damage the surrounding skin and compound the problem further.

Korea addresses pore concerns across every stage of this process. Oil cleansers that dissolve sebum at the source without triggering the rebound oil production that stripping cleansers cause. Chemical exfoliants ~ salicylic acid, AHA, LHA ~ that dissolve the bonds holding congestion in the pore rather than physically scrubbing it away. Clay formulations paired with barrier-supporting actives that purify without drying. Niacinamide that regulates sebum production at the gland level over consistent use.

And retinal ~ one of the most effective pore-refining actives in skincare, clinically proven to reduce pore volume with consistent use. By accelerating cell turnover and stimulating collagen production in the skin surrounding the pore, retinal physically tightens the pore wall over time ~ addressing the structural laxity that makes pores appear enlarged in a way that topical cleansing and exfoliation alone cannot.

Best for: enlarged pores, blackheads, excess sebum, congestion, oily and combination skin
